LAPORTE COUNTY | A Valparaiso man and a Michigan man were charged earlier this month with hunting illegally at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

On Nov. 16, a National Park Service ranger on patrol in the Pinhook Bog area found a Valparaiso man in an illegal tree stand 150 yards inside the park boundary, according to a news release from the park service. The man allegedly had a compound bow, several arrows, a hunting knife and other hunting gear.

The day before, National Park Service rangers found a Buchanan, Mich., man hunting in a tree stand about 75 yards inside the park boundaries near Mount Baldy, according to the release. Rangers discovered an illegal tree stand and bait site several weeks earlier and were conducting surveillance on the area.
