HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Officials in Howard County said Joseph Steele was in a wooded area near his home in Russiaville around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
Witnesses told police the group had split up and at some point lost sight of Steele.
One of the hunters fired at what he thought was a squirrel in the distance.
Steele’s family members said they heard Steele yell that he had been shot just after the gun went off.
