ndiana Conservation Officers are investigating a tree stand fall, which occurred on Sunday morning in Steuben County on Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area.

Lagrange County Communications received a 911 call about a deer hunter who had fallen out of his tree stand. Two nearby archery hunters heard someone yelling and followed the voice to where 33-year-old Brent Chester of Albion was laying injured at the bottom of the tree where his tree stand was located.

The two hunters called 911. Indiana Conservation Officer Jake Carlile was the first on scene and the two hunters were able to direct him to Chester’s location in the woods. Carlile rendered first aid until EMS arrived, then he was flown to a nearby hospital.

Chester fell approximately 16 feet from a ladder tree stand, sustaining internal injuries. He was not wearing a safety harness.

Assisting Indiana Conservation Officers at the scene were Orland Fire Dept., Mongo Fire Dept., Steuben County EMS, Parkview EMS, and Parkview Samaritan Helicopter.
