LIZTON, Ind. (WISH) – Hendricks County Sheriff Deputies had to close all westbound lanes of I-74 Saturday to rescue a man stuck in the mud up to his waist.
Pat Carmean the Deputy Chief for the Brownsburg Fire Department told 24 Hour News 8 the man was trapping muskrats under a culvert off I-74 between Pittsboro and Lizton when he got stuck around 11:15am Saturday.
Crews stopped traffic so all the fire trucks and law enforcement vehicles could get to the scene. Several agencies responded to help, from Lizton, Pittsboro, Danville, Plainfield, Brownsburg and a speciality team from IFD.
It took crews almost an hour to free the man from the mud. Deputies tell us he walked to the ambulance to be checked out. His name has not yet been released.
Deputies called for a medical helicopter to fly to the scene, but it was later disregarded. Paramedics took him to Methodist Hospital to be checked out.
