WSIL — An Union County man has been convicted of illegally baiting deer at the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. James Scherer, of Anna, pleaded guilty Monday to five wildlife violation misdemeanors.
Scherer used corn to attract deer, hunted inside a closed area, and removed vegetation without permission.
Scherer was fined $1,450, was sentenced to two year’s probation, and is prohibited from hunting during that time.
