A hunter who illegally set traps at Credit Island Park in Davenport, accidentally killing a pet dog, reportedly is filled with remorse.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources, or DNR, conservation officer Jeff Harrison, who is assigned to Scott County, said he spoke with the hunter after a Davenport woman’s dachshund-corgi mix was killed Wednesday by one of his traps.

Harrison said he looked into Iowa hunting rules to see whether a law was violated and found nothing with which to charge the hunter. A Davenport Police detective still is investigating the case, he said, adding that hunting is illegal in city parks.
