The West Virginia Natural Resource Police and Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting involving a hunter that happened Tuesday afternoon in the Genoa area of Wayne County.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the victim — a man in his 20s — was shot in the chest and face with buckshot while turkey hunting along Joels Branch Road.

The victim is listed as stable, according to the state DNR. His father told us his name is Wayne Williamson Jr., who will celebrate his 25th birthday Wednesday.

Investigators are working to find the person who fired the shot. They said it appears to be a random incident.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department or the DNR.
