Stoughton man injured while hunting in Sauk County
Sauk County deputies found a Stoughton man lying on the ground below his tree stand with a broken leg and a head injury over the weekend. Chief Deputy Chip Meister said at 8:41pm Saturday night Sauk County dispatch received a phone call reporting a possible missing hunter.
Thomas Wicks had agreed to meet with his hunting friend, Daniel Wahlin, also of Stoughton, at 6:30pm at their vehicles, but Wahlin had not returned.
The deputies determined that Wahlin was hunting on land he owned off Marble Quarry Road in the Township of Bear Creek. Wicks guided several deputies into the area Wahlin had been hunting.
As they searched the area, Wahlin was heard yelling which allowed the deputies to locate him at approximately 10:50pm Saturday night.
Plain Fire and Rescue along with Plain ambulance responded to the scene to extricate Wahlin from the woods.
Wahlin was then medflown to UW-Hospital in Madison for treatment of his injuries.
