Snohomish grad killed in hunting accident
SNOHOMISH — Devin Rowe, a 2004 graduate of Snohomish High School, was killed last week in a hunting accident during a family trip to southern Alabama.
Rowe, who also was a military veteran, died after being shot in the chest by a family member who mistook him for a deer, Monroe County coroner Robert Malone said.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. Jan. 21. Rowe died at the scene, Malone said.
As a teen, Rowe played football for Snohomish High School as an offensive lineman.
The school’s athletic director, Mark Perry, called Rowe “just another of those guys who loved the game of football and played hard every day. He enjoyed what he did in high school.”
Acquaintances said Rowe enlisted in the military after graduation and served at least one tour in the Middle East.
“He survived what you think is the tough part,” Perry said.
Monroe County is a rural, pine-forested area in southern Alabama with a population of about 22,500. Along with being popular among hunters, the county is the birthplace of Harper Lee, author of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” .
