Bizarre hunting accident in Benson
Benson, Vermont – November 13, 2010
A bizarre hunting accident in Rutland County.
It happened in a wooded area behind a home off Route 144 in Benson. It was a
tough rescue, because it required first responders to cross the Hubbardton
River.
Steve Kelly arrived home to find game wardens and ambulances driving across
his property.
“We didn’t know until we talked to the game warden, he said that a deer
hunter shot a deer, when he finally found it on the edge of the property, he
went to stab it, because he didn’t want to shoot it again, this is what they
told us, and he ended up stabbing himself in the leg instead of the deer,”
he said.
The man reportedly cut a main artery in his leg. He was reportedly airlifted
to a regional hospital.
Authorities have not released his name and his condition is unknown.
