A 68-year-old man faces two charges after an 18-year-old died in what the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources called a “hunting incident.”
DWR says Conservation Police officers were called to the area of Eggelstetton Road around noon Dec. 29 for the shooting. Amelia County deputies and EMS crews were on the scene when officers arrived.
“Officers determined that the victim was engaged in deer hunting with a small group of fellow hunters,” DWR said in January. “During the hunt, one of the members of the hunting party found the victim, identified as Lilly Patman, 18, of Amelia Court House, deceased.”
Patman suffered what appeared to be a single gunshot wound.
The Amelia County commonwealth’s attorney confirmed Monday that Thomas Farleigh, 68, is facing felony involuntary manslaughter and misdemeanor firearm charges.
According to court records, he was arrested on Feb. 8. His next court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 16.
