A hunter was taken to a hospital via helicopter after they fell from a deer stand in Buckingham County on Sunday.

Just after 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, both the Buckingham County Department of Emergency Services and the Toga Volunteer Fire Department were called to the 5100 block of Crumptown Road for report of a hunter falling from a deer stand.

First responders found the 23-year-old hunter, who had fallen from a height of 15 feet, deep in the woods near the Appomattox River. They reportedly had a broken leg.

According to officials, it was determined that the hunter needed to be taken from the scene via helicopter.

“Thankful to have such great partnering agencies to assist with the especially challenging calls,” Buckingham officials said.
