A Carlin man pleaded guilty to killing a trophy mule deer in the closed area of Great Basin National Parkon Nov. 18 and was sentenced to three years of probation, a year of jail time (suspended), fined more than $9,000 in civil and criminal penalties and forfeited a 7mm rifle used in the crime.
Tyler J. Cobb, 30, pleaded guilty in 7th Judicial District Court in Ely to a gross misdemeanor for an incident that happened on Nov. 3, 2014.
On that day, Cobb shot a mule deer approximately a half mile inside the national park, an area that is closed to firearm use of any kind. Cobb will also lose all hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for five years.
