An Oxfordshire man has been accused of illegally killing two deer as well as using dogs to hunt wild mammals.

Benjamin Thompson, of North Street, Thame, appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (February 25) charged with several offences.

The 20-year-old has been charged with one count each of trespassing on land at night to take/destroy rabbits, killing a deer at night, killing two deer without the land owner’s permission, two counts of entering land with consent of the owner in search of a deer with intent to kill/take, of permitting a dog to hunt for a wild mammal, possession of a hunting a knife, and one count of hunting a wild mammal with dogs.

The offences allegedly took place on January 8 this year in Stert Road, Oxfordshire.

Thompson is accused of ‘destroying rabbits’, killing a Chinese Water Deer after sunrise at 9.30pm, and ‘knowingly’ permitting a dog to hunt.

The defendant is also accused of entering Kingston Blount Farm in Stert Road without the consent of the land owner in ‘search or pursuit of deer with the intention of taking, killing or injuring the same’.

After appearing for his first hearing, Thompson’s case has now been adjourned until March 11.

He is due to appear at the same court at 10am for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
