Dorset Police received a report that a fox was chased by a group of hounds at a trail led event by the Seavington Hunt in October last year. The fox was killed in the area of Drimpton near Beaminster.
Following enquiries, a 49 year old man from Ilminster, Somerset, was charged with hunting a wild mammal with dogs under Section 1 of the Hunting Act 2004.
The man appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty. He was fined £513 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £205.
Police Constable Sebastian Haggett, from Dorset Police Rural Crime Team, said: “We take all reports of crime against wildlife seriously and we will seek to prosecute those individuals or groups who commit offences in our rural communities.
“I would like to extend my thanks to the witnesses in this case who provided evidence in this case and it shows the importance of reporting any alleged breaches of the Hunting Act 2004.”
