Boating accidents hard to take
I know there are always going to be accidents so random, so off the charts that there’s really no way to explain them or wonder what we could have done to stop them.
But we can’t say that about most boating accidents, especially the ones with fatalities. For one thing, people do things that defy logic and result in accidents and for another, people don’t wear life jackets.
Texas Parks and Wildlife just released a list of fatal accidents and drownings from the Memorial Day holiday period and honestly, I got a queasy stomach just reading it. Here it is in its entirety:
…
And wardens still were searching Thursday for a missing 46-year-old angler whose empty boat washed ashore on Monday.
…
I hate the annual boating and hunting accident stories, mostly because there just seems to be a floor below which we cannot go in terms of the numbers of deaths. Maybe some day.
