Longview Mayor Andy Mack said Tuesday a set of misdemeanor hunting citations leveled at him in New Mexico last summer are being settled in a court north of Santa Fe.

His lawyer, Dan Hurley of Lubbock, said the charges arose from Mack using his son’s tag during a 2013 bow-hunting trip they took together.

“Andy shot a bull elk … with a bow and put his son’s tag on the elk and took it home,” Hurley said. “Somebody during the mayoral campaign knew about the elk and reported it. We worked it out; we are complying fully with them.
We (will have) paid a fine and are making a donation to their game …
charity to promote conservation.”

The complaint, written by New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Conservation Officer Brady Griffith, lists six counts against Mack.

There are four accusing him of unlawful hunting or fishing, and one each of first-offense using a fictitious or other person’s hunting/fishing license and possession of game or fish without a license.
