A child and an adult were accidentally shot while hunting in Chattanooga Thursday, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says.

The shooting happened at the North Chickamauga Creek Varner unit off of Cassandra Smith Road:

TWRA Sergeant Joe McSpadden says they received a call from the Hamilton County 911 for a hunting accident around 3:50 p.m.

“The details were that individuals have been injured while dove hunting and had been shot by another individual who was attempting to take a dove in the field,” says TWRA Sergeant McSpadden.

September 1st is the opening day for dove hunting season. So, Sergeant McSpadden says there are a lot of people out in the woods to dove hunt.

Ed Frampton is located right in the area where accident occurred.

“This is the first time we’ve ever had an incident like this that I know of here in this community,” says Frampton.

The TWRA says they are still investigating.

TWRA Sargent Joe McSpadden says to prevent things like this from happening familiarize yourself with hunter safety.

“Well, we always stress with TWRA the fundamentals of hunter safety, such as keeping the muzzle in a safe direction making sure by safe backstop and making sure of your target before you shoot,” says Sergeant McSpadden.

We are still working to learn more about the victims and what happened.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
