Man recovering after being shot in the eye while turkey hunting

STANDISH, Maine – Joseph Kennedy has a pretty good attitude about a turkey hunting accident that was just inches away from costing him his eyesight.

“The only turkey that got shot was me,” the 61-year-old jokes from inside his Standish home where he’s recovering from being shot in his left eye.

Kennedy and his 29-year-old son Kevin were hunting turkeys in Windham on Monday morning when the accident happened.

The two split up to go after different flocks of turkeys and estimate they were about 60 yards apart when Kevin unknowingly fired toward his father.

A piece of bird shot hit Joseph Kennedy’s left eye.

The Kennedys are avid hunters and say they’ve never had anything like this happen before.

They insist Monday’s incident was just an accident.

Ironically, he has been mostly blind in that eye since birth.
