8 hunters fined $14,000 for SD hunting violations

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Eight hunters have been fined a total of more than $14,000 after being prosecuted for antelope hunting violations in South Dakota.

KCCR-AM in Pierre reports the hunters were found by state and federal wildlife officials to be involved in “party hunting,” a practice of some hunters lending licenses and some harvesting game without licenses. The investigation began when an officer with the state Game, Fish and Parks Department came across a group of hunters in Stanley County last October.

The fined hunters are from Watertown and Hayti in South Dakota, as well as from Colorado, Iowa and Texas. Their charges included fraud to obtain a big game license, unlawful possession of big game and improper tagging, among others..
