The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) reported that a person was shot during a hunting trip in Anderson County.
Officials said on Saturday October 18, a hunter was struck by a stray bullet. Following an investigation, authorities said the bullet recovered was not consistent with ammunition used by hunters.
SCDNR believes the incident resulted from a stray round fired by someone target practicing. Officers are still working to determine where the bullet came from.
On Monday the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting was the result of a family member of the victim shooting for target practice without a proper backstop, causing a round to hit the victim.
Officials said the victim is expected to make a full recovery.
The sheriff’s office is still working to determine if any charges will be filed.
