Five hunters face criminal and civil penalties after the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management received a report of hunters poaching ducks.
The DEM also seized five guns from the hunters and at least a dozen birds, according to information in a DEM Facebook post.
The investigation started last weekend when the DEM received a complaint of “poachers shooting ducks while their boat was still under power in lower Narragansett Bay,” the DEM said.
On Saturday morning, a DEM officer patroling Jamestown saw “a boat matching the description and the hunters onboard shoot several ducks while under power,” the DEM states in the Facebook post.
