A 31-year-old farmer died after he was accidentally shot by his companion while hunting for wild boar on Sunday, June 8, in Barangay San Pedro, Jaro, Leyte.

Investigation said the victim Jojo, along with companion Rene and the suspect identified as Perper, 43, were looking for wild boars in a mountainous area around 15.7 kilometers from the town proper.

To increase their chances of finding a target, the victim decided to split from the group.
Perper noticed movement in a grassy area and, believing it to be a wild boar, fired his homemade shotgun.

He later discovered and was shocked that he accidentally shot Jojo.
Perper and Rene brought the victim to the barangay proper.

Jojo was taken to the Carigara District Hospital in Carigara, Leyte where he was declared dead.
Perper surrendered to the Jaro Municipal Station.
The suspect’s homemade shotgun was not recovered.
