SHIPPENSBURG – Paul Witter, a supervisor for Southampton Township, Franklin County, was shot Saturday evening in a hunting incident in Lurgan Township.

Pennsylvania Game Commission spokesman Travis Lau said that a 78-year-old man shot a 44-year-old Shippensburg man who was riding an all-terrain vehicle. The man on the ATV was possibly mistaken for game. He was hit in the upper shoulder with a bullet from a .300 caliber rifle.

More than a half dozen people in Pennsylvania have been injured in hunting-related shootings so far this season, according to Lau. Antlerless deer season was open during the weekend to senior and junior licensed hunters with rifles.
