A Bedford County man is facing charges after investigators say he killed deer with a gun he wasn’t supposed to have.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, 42-year-old Wesley Kauffman faces charges related to possession of a firearm prohibited and unlawful killing of big game during closed season.

This past November, officials say a state game warden encountered Kauffman along Hinton Road in Napier Township.

They say Kauffman was seen holding a Remington 770 bolt action rifle used for hunting.

Authorities say Kauffman is a felon not to possess firearms due to a criminal trespass conviction in 2000.

They say they began questioning him about four deer he allegedly had at his home.

Kauffman told investigators he didn’t have four deer, just one he shot with a rifle during rifle season and one he had hit with his mother’s car, according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities say they investigated his home for evidence of multiple deer being processed there before filing charges.

Kauffman was arraigned Tuesday morning.
