VALE — A 17-year-old squirrel hunter was sitting the driver’s seat of a parked SUV south of Vale when a second 17-year-old hunter holding a revolver reached in to get more ammunition, Malheur County Undersheriff Travis Johnson said. The weapon discharged, and the bullet hit the driver in the back.

The hunter was taken by Life Flight to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise. He was in serious condition, with a non-life-threatening injury.
