Alsea man charged with hunting violations
A 28-year-old Alsea man is charged with several wildlife crimes in connection with the illegal killing of two bull elk west of Alsea on Sept. 1. Adam Schreiber was arrested Friday following an investigation by the Oregon State Police fish and wildlife division.
According to Senior Trooper James Halsey, investigators determined that Schreiber illegally killed a spike elk and a six-point bull while bowhunting on private property without permission. While he had a tag for one animal, he allegedly used another hunter’s tag for the other. He was also reportedly in possession of a third elk skull with antlers attached in violation of anti-poaching laws.
Schreiber faces charges of exceeding his bag limit, hunting on another’s cultivated enclosed land, borrowing a big game tag and unlawful possession of a big game part.
All four charges are misdemeanors, but Schreiber could be fined up to $15,000 under a new law that went into effect this year.
