PERRYSVILLE — A 34-year-old Perrysville woman is in stable condition at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland after a shooting accident this morning.

Ashland County Sheriff’s Captain Carl Richert said the woman suffered minor injuries while she was hunting a groundhog with a .22 Marlin semiautomatic rifle.

The 34-year-old took two shots and missed, and was walking with the rifle pointed toward the ground and her finger on the trigger when the rifle went off, he said.

On a semi-automatic rifle, “every time you pull the trigger it self-loads,”
he said. “She brought the gun down toward the ground with her finger on the trigger and it went off.
