A Cayuga County man is facing charges after environmental officers say he exceeded the legal limit for spring turkey hunting.
Lieutenant Colesante and Environmental Conservation Officer Prentice responded to a complaint on May 15 in the town of Montezuma. Their investigation revealed that the subject had illegally taken three adult male turkeys on separate days throughout May and brought them to local taxidermists for tail fan mounts.
After being interviewed, the individual admitted to shooting all three birds. Officers issued one ticket for taking over the spring turkey limit and another for hunting without a valid permit.
New York regulations allow hunters to take only two bearded turkeys during the spring season, and no more than one per day.
