WASSAIC – A Town of Dover man faces charges of illegally hunting for deer at night and driving while intoxicated.
New York State Police troops from the Dover Plains barracks say they observed at 2 a.m. Monday morning a vehicle shining a spotlight in the Wassaic Multiple Use Area in the Town of Amenia.
A police investigation revealed the vehicle operator, aged 46, was in possession of a loaded shotgun and spotlight and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent – over the legal limit for driving.
The troopers arrested the man, charging him with driving while intoxicated, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited light, illegal hunting and an open container.
The man was arraigned in Amenia town court and released on $200 cash bail. He was directed to return to court on Dec. 20.
The Poughkeepsie Journal typically does not print the names of those charged with misdemeanors and/or violations.
