FOSTER’S CROSSROADS – A Newell man was accidentally shot in the face while turkey hunting on Thursday morning.

According to the report from Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Wesley Brian Bowen, 29, of 122 County Rd. 1901, is in an Atlanta area hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened near 3150 County Rd. 7 at approximately 7:36 a.m.

Another hunter, Johnny Ray Bradley, 58, of 26511 Hwy. 431, Wedowee, told conservation officer Harry Clark he was sitting down in the woods calling turkeys when Bowen came from behind him also calling turkeys. Apparently neither man knew the other was in the woods.
