NEW LEXINGTON — Kenn McCord doesn’t think he’s a hero and blushes when given a compliment for his actions Monday morning.
McCord, of New Lexington, was working when he got a call that a friend, Mark Sagstetter, of Columbus, had fallen out of a deer stand near his cabin off Township Road 223 and possibly was badly injured.
Sagstetter had been on a deer stand Sunday night, watching deer on the property and wasn’t expected home for several days. He missed a rung on his way down from the stand and crashed to the ground.
Initially unable to move, Sagstetter laid under the tree all night, but was able to drag himself back to his cabin Monday morning.

Sagstetter was transported to a hospital in Lancaster and then transferred to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with two broken ribs, three broken vertebrae and a broken hip.

“He’s looking at about eight years of recovery,” Merry said. “He’s very, very fortunate. I know he’s going to believe in wearing that harness now.
This is like hunting class 101 for him.”
