A smartphone app proved to be the saving grace for a stranded hunter in Shelby County.
According to shelby county 9-1-1… A hunter who was stuck 60 feet up in a tree was rescued…
Thanks to a free, innovative *location* app called What3Words
The app divides the world into ten by ten foot squares…
And gives each square a unique combination of three words to pinpoint someone’s exact location.
Shelby County 911 director Stacy Helmick says having the app may be the difference between life and death.
“I think it’s been fantastic, I am very thankful that we have it, and I encourage everyone to use it. My folks went out hunting this winter and I told them ‘download this app’, because if something happens to you out there, they’re not going to be able to find you, you know you’re on 40 acres of land, we need to find you,” said Helmick.
Helmick says her agency has benefitted great from the “what 3 words” app, using it multiple incidents.
She encourages everyone to download it, because it’s free and could save your life.
