Tree stand fall injures hunter
November 22, 2010
A man is in serious condition after falling from a tree stand Saturday near St. Charles, Minn.
Jason Andring, 32, of Dover, Minn., was hunting on a family member’s farm between St. Charles and Elba at the time of the accident, according to St. Charles police.
Andring’s tree stand fell backwards when he started to climb down and collapsed as he tried to correct himself, said officer Renee Hewitt, who was on scene after the call came in at 5:53 p.m.
Andring sustained injuries to his back after a 16- to 20-foot drop and was flown by helicopter to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., Hewitt said.
Andring’s fall is the second hunting-related accident to happen in less than a week. David Christopher Haven, 57, of Salem, Ore., died from injuries sustained as a result of a 17- to 18-foot drop from a deer stand near Ridgeway, Minn., on Nov. 16.
