A hunter was rescued after being lost for 12 hours in severe winter conditions in rural Mille Lacs County on Jan. 3.

The man was stranded in deep snow when the Minnesota Air Rescue Team (MART) was deployed. Using night vision and thermal imaging, a MART helicopter located the hunter within minutes. Rescue crews then reached him on foot through the snow and safely brought him to safety.

The Minnesota Air Rescue Team is a joint effort of Minnesota State Patrol pilots and St. Paul Fire Department rescue personnel, trained for air rescues in challenging environments.
