Officials with the Wabasha County Sheriff and the Minnesota Conservation Office are investigating what they believe to be an accidental shooting that injured a hunter.
The 74-year-old man was hit with birdshot from a shotgun about 5 p.m.
Thursday while crossbow hunting from a ground blind near Wabasha County Road
21 and 421st Avenue in Mazeppa Township. He was wearing camouflage clothing.
After the man realized he’d been hit, he yelled for help, saying he’d been shot. The victim told authorities he thought one of the men started toward him, but when he yelled that he’d been shot, he heard what he believed was a group running toward the parking lot of the state land.
