Gary Gatewood had a passion for hunting, fishing and golfing, and was known for his love of the wilderness, as well as his family and job as a senior gas field leader for Consumers Energy.
The 42-year-old father of five, who lost his life in a hunting accident last week at Sleepy Hollow State Park, also played cornhole in local tournaments and hosted games at his home, according to a published obituary.
“Gary was the first to lend a helping hand,” the obituary said. “Known for his quick wit, famous one-liners, and unmatched sarcasm, he was the quintessential ‘pot stirrer,’ never missing a chance to get the last word in.”
Sheriff’s officials declined to confirm Gatewood was the victim of the Sept. 4 incident; Gatewood’s obituary said he died in a hunting accident on the same date.
Gatwood was a dedicated husband and father, according to the obituary. He had worked for Consumers Energy for 10 years and took pride in leading his team, it said.
“He could often be found grilling or smoking meats for family and friends, sharing laughs, stories, and plenty of good-natured banter,” the obituary said. “He loved football, especially the Bengals and the (Tennessee Volunteers). Whether stirring the pot or serenading everyone with karaoke, Gary brought life to every room he entered.”
