Hunter stable after incident Ohio resident shoots self in foot opening day November 16, 2010
CRYSTAL FALLS – A Chardon, Ohio, resident is in stable condition today, after accidently shooting himself in the foot while hunting in Iron County opening day.
According to Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano, Douglas Shelia, 67, sustained an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to his right foot from a .30-06 rifle. The accident occurred off Little Finland Road in Bates Township.
Shelia was transported to Northstar Hospital by friends where he was treated for a non life-threatening rifle wound. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Sheriff Valesano is reminding hunters while they are out in the woods looking for their trophy buck to be diligent about practicing gun safety at all times, which will insure a safe and successful hunt for everyone.
