BERLIN: Police look into hunting accident

BERLIN — The Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating a hunting mishap involving a man who says his shotgun fell over and went off after he’d propped it up in the field.

Mallory R. Warner, 58 of Flintstone, Md. was treated at Atlantic General Hospital, police said, after he was accidentally sprayed with shotgun pellets while hunting at the E.A. Vaughn Wildlife Management Area. Police said Warner told investigators he’d propped his firearm on some brush and leaned down to retrieve a duck.

The shotgun fell over and fired, striking him with pellets in the left elbow, police said.

Warner was treated and released from the hospital the same day. No charges are pending, said the Natural Resources Police, but they reminded hunters to observe the rules of gun safety and unload their firearms before they set their gun down for any reason.
