The former Orioles pitcher and current analyst on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network posted Friday on X that he fell out of a 25-foot deer stand Thursday and suffered a severe concussion and two cracked vertebrae in his spine. He said he still doesn’t “remember anything” about the accident but is “fine” and will be “back in #Birdland soon” calling Orioles games.

McDonald posted a video of himself in a hospital bed talking with medical professionals and family about the incident. In the video, someone off camera explains that McDonald and two others were moving a tree stand for bowhunting from a dead tree when the stand broke and collapsed. McDonald’s dog, a silver Lab named Jeter, was also present and is OK.

“I don’t fall out of tree stands, they break,” McDonald quips in the video. The accident happened just a few days after he posted a video from his 180-acre farm in Mississippi, which, according to the Baton Rouge Business Report, serves as both a hunting spot and family retreat for his wife and two children.
