La. man charged with illegally hunting alligators
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – A hunting guide from Louisiana has been charged with illegally hunting alligators.
Wednesday’s federal indictment in Baton Rouge charges 36-year-old Gregory K. Dupont, of Plaquemine, with violating the Lacey Act, a wildlife protection law.
Dupont is a licensed alligator hunter and owner of Louisiana Hunters Inc.
The indictment accuses him of illegally hunting American alligators three times in 2005 and 2006.
Each count carries a maximum punishment of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
