CHALMETTE, La. – Joshua D. Starr, 28, pleaded guilty to negligent injury and hunting deer during illegal hours in St. Bernard Parish Court. He was sentenced to pay $1,000 and court costs.
The incident occurred on Jan. 4 in the wooded area near Bourmouth Park.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Starr thought he had shot a deer after hunting hours, but he and his hunting partner realized that he had shot a person instead. The victim was hit with shot from a 12-gauge shotgun from 24 yards away, hitting the victim in the lower abdomen and legs.
