A hunter was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to multiple violations in federal court in Alexandria.

Aaron St. Pierre, 27, was sentenced to five years of unsupervised probation and a $4,550 fine for the hunting violations. His hunting privileges and access to all national wildlife refuges were suspended for five years.

The violations were uncovered during an investigation into illegal hunting on a closed area of the Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge in Avoyelles Parish.

St. Pierre, who is from Montz in St. Charles Parish, pleaded guilty earlier this month to hunting in a closed area, unlawful taking of a whitetail deer, use of trail cameras,

distribution and hunting over bait and littering in a refuge.
