Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported that Ralston Nugent, 22, of Deville was cited for alleged deer hunting violations in LaSalle Parish on January 2.

According to agents, Nugent was cited for taking deer during illegal hours and taking deer from a public road.

LDWF agents were on patrol at around 11 p.m. on January 2, when they saw a truck stop multiple times on a levee. Agents said they pulled the vehicle over and found a freshly harvested deer in the truck bed.

While speaking with agents, Nugent reportedly confessed to using a rifle to kill an antlerless deer on the Diversion Canal Levee Road, which is within the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area.

LDWF said the rifle and deer were seized. The deer was donated to a local charity.

According to LDWF, taking a deer during illegal hours is a fine of $900-$950 and up to 120 days in jail. Taking deer from a public road carries a maximum fine of $350. Nugent was also ordered to pay $400 in civil restitution for the replacement value of the deer.

Sgt. Raymond Davis, Corporal Jeremiah Fletcher and Corporal Ryan Durand participated in this case.
