Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged deer hunting violations on Jan. 26 in Ouachita and Union parishes.
Agents cited Frank Kirby, 58, of Sterlington, for taking deer during illegal hours, taking over the seasonal limit of deer and taking over the seasonal limit of antlerless deer.
Agents responded to a complaint about a subject harvesting over the limit of deer. During the investigation, agents identified Kirby as the subject that harvested over the limit of deer.
Agents made contact with Kirby and he admitted to harvesting 10 deer during the 2024-25 season in Union and Ouachita parishes with seven of the deer being antlered and the other three being antlerless. He also admitted to harvesting three of the antlered deer at night with a crossbow.
The seasonal limit of deer for this area is six deer, not to exceed three antlered deer per licensed hunter. Kirby was four deer over the seasonal limit and four deer over the antlered limit.
Agents seized the crossbow and three sets of antlers.
Taking deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and 120 days in jail. Taking over the seasonal limit of deer and over the seasonal limit of antlered deer carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense.
Kirby will also face civil restitution totaling $8,123 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
Agents participating in this case are Lt. Kurt Hatten, Sgt. Tyler Wheeler, Corporal John Hattaway, Senior Agent Stephen Lacombe, Agent Mollyann Moore and Agent Perry Ashley.
