A tragic hunting accident took place in Palghar, Maharashtra, that resulted in the death of a man who was mistakenly shot by fellow hunters. The incident took place on January 28 in Borsheti forest area during a wild boar hunt.
Palghar: In a tragic incident reported from Palghar district of Maharashtra, a man was shot dead by his fellow hunters after they mistook him for a wild animal. The incident reportedly took place on Jan 28 night in Borsheti forest area at Manor. Police said the incident took place when some villagers had went to the forest to hunt wild boars and some of them separated in the jungle.
During the commotion in the forest, the fellow hunters shot two of their friends causing the death of one of them on the spot. The other man sustained serious gunshot wounds. Following the incident, the hunters hid the body in the forest rather than reporting the incident to police.
Six detained for man’s death
Police came to know about the incident after they were tipped off and initiated a probe into the incident. Police have now detained six persons for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The local police found the body of the deceased after an extensive search in the forest on Wednesday. The body was in the highly decomposed state. Police have sent the body for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Body cremated secretly
The report suggests that the man died during treatment and his body was cremated without informing police. Cops say they have filed an FIR in the case and a thorough probe is underway.
“Some villagers got separated from the group during the hunting expedition. One of the hunters mistook fellow hunters for wild animal and opened fire hitting two of them. One of the man died instantly, while another sustained serious injuries,” a report in HT quoted Palghar’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Abhijit Dharashivkar as saying
