A juvenile was flown to the hospital in serious condition after falling from a tree stand while hunting in southeast Indiana over the weekend.

It happened Saturday around 4 p.m. when first responders were called out for a hunting accident at a property in Friendship, Indiana.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources law enforcement said an investigation revealed that a juvenile hunter was climbing into their tree stand when the straps broke, causing the stand to fall. The juvenile fell around 20 feet to the ground, ISP said.

They were flown to a Cincinnati hospital in serious condition. Their current condition is unknown at this time.

Conservation officers said the most common hunting-related injuries are from accidents involving tree stands and elevated platforms. Officers said it’s important to wear a full-body safety harness when going up to and getting down from elevated platforms.
