A weekend hunting trip didn’t go exactly as planned for five hunters in Dubois County.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said conservation officers responded to an area of White River near Haysville around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday after the hunters’ boat froze in the water.

The hunters got stuck just east of the Haysville bridge, Indiana DNR said in a news release Monday.

Officers had to deploy an airboat to reach the hunters because that area of the river was nearly frozen from bank to bank given the snow and 12 degree temperatures.

All five hunters were safely rescued and returned to shore, Indiana DNR added.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Dubois County Emergency Medical Services, Haysville Fire Department, and Luce Township Fire Department in Spencer County also assisted in the rescue.
