Firefighters rescued a hunter suffering from a lower-leg injury near Galena Summit in Blaine County Monday evening.
The Blaine County Fire Protection District said its crews, along with several other departments, responded to the Galena Summit area on Oct. 12 to rescue a hunter with a lower-leg injury. Officials said they were able to carry the hunter out of the area and safely rescue them.
“We want to recognize the hunter for being well-prepared for the conditions. He was equipped for winter weather, carried a way to call for help, and had let someone know where he planned to hunt,” the protection district said.
The hunter was taken to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center for treatment, authorities said. Details about the extent of the hunter’s injuries were not released.
Crews are reminding backcountry visitors to dress for winter conditions, carry reliable communication and let someone know their plans, saying “Stay safe, stay prepared, and enjoy the outdoors!”
The Blaine County Fire & Rescue’s Ketchum Station, Smiley Creek Fire and the City of Sun Valley Fire Department all assisted with the rescue.
