E. Idaho man sentenced for illegal hunting

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A Chubbock man has been sentenced to 20 months probation and ordered to pay $1,200 in restitution for shooting too many ducks and geese while hunting on tribal lands last year.

A judge also revoked the hunting and fishing privileges of Roger Duane Hamann during the probation period.

Hamann pleaded guilty earlier this month to one count of violating the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act for exceeding the limit for hunting ducks and geese.

In January 2009, federal wildlife agents seized the carcasses of 89 ducks and 45 geese from Hamann’s driveway. The legal limit is 14 ducks and eight geese. Officials say Hamann killed the birds on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.

Hamann must also get permission from his probation officer before taking part in any activity on public lands.
